“Oceans and Ocean based Economy”, these topics have been becoming increasingly important topics of international community due to the higher economic significance of ocean and its resources. Within these circumstances, The Bandaranaike Centre for International Studies(BCIS), organized a seminar on “Blue Economy” on 31st of August 2017 at BCIS auditorium.According to BCIS, this was the first seminar related with that subject, was held in Sri Lanka. This seminar highlighted the potential of blue economy and strategic perspectives in Sri Lanka.

Tharindu: Novelist attempt to save elephants in Sri Lanka

It was on the World Elephant Day 2017 Tharindu embarked his journey by publishing his firsts ever book, The Life of Last Proboscideans: Elephants. Tharindu is still 23 years of age and carried out so much of work for the cause of protecting elephants. He is also a columnist who wrote about elephant issues to the press.  After the book launch Tharindu spoke to Earthlanka about how he stumbled upon such a subject matter and how his cause will give an effort to protect elephants.

“Trinity” Goes Green

On 12th of August 2017, Trinity College Kandy has launched and implemented solar power project which is contributing to fulfil whole current energy need of the school. 100KWp of electricity can be generated from current power project. This wonderful project was initialized by 1992 batch of Trinity College to celebrate 25th anniversary of their leaving from Trinity and this can be considered as a symbol of old boys affection towards this one of the most reputed college of magnificent hill country in Sri Lanka. School current staff, contemporary teachers of 1992 batch and other important people attended to inaugurate this significant event. This project contributes to make Trinity Eco-friendly and to create a sustainable community in the country.
