KENYA GOVERNMENT URGES FARMERS TO VENTURE IN COTTON FARMING

Kenya-Cabinet Secretary for Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Willy Bett visited Kwale County where he encouraged smallholder farmers to venture into the farming of cotton and help revive the troubled sector.He made these remarks during a visit to mining company, Base Titanium, who have already established a program with the local community in which they operate in, to improve the living standards and livelihood opportunities. Commenting on the state of the cotton industry in the country, Willy Bett said, “There are various challenges in the Kenya cotton sector that have resulted to its low competitiveness, both in the local and in the international market. One major constraint is the high cost of inputs.
