UN Preparing Young Developing Country Professionals to Lead Climate Action

The fellowship initiative will offer work experience in a vibrant international policy environment at the UN Climate Change Secretariat (UNFCCC). The United Nations University Institute for Environment and Human Security (UNU-EHS) will help identify and recruit the young professionals, and provide them with an exciting research environment.

South-South Cooperation Crucial for Global Goals and Climate Action

A new report highlighting the role of South-South Cooperation in sustainable development and climate change challenges was launched today at the UN Climate Change Conference SB46 (to 18 May) in Bonn.

The report, called “Catalyzing the Implementation of Nationally Determined Contributions in the Context of the 2030 Agenda through South-South Cooperation,” was created in a joint effort by the United Nations Executive Office of the Secretary-General, and the Secretariat of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

Collaboration needed in Science Communication

Effective science communication requires more collaboration between researchers, communications officers and journalists. This was one of the key messages in a 2-day science reporting workshop, held on 5-6 May 2017,jointly organised by theUnited Nations University Institute for Natural Resources in Africa (UNU-INRA), the United Nations University Maastricht Economic and Social Research Institute on Innovation and Technology (UNU-MERIT),Netherlandsand the United Nations Information Centre (UNIC), Accra. The workshop, dubbed “Reach & Turn” aimed to helpbridge the gap between science communication and science journalism.

Climate change is costing lives particularly in poor and vulnerable countries – Says LDC Chair

Chair of the Least Developed Countries (LDC) Group, Gebru Jember Endalew, said "climate change is costing lives and livelihoods, particularly in poor and vulnerable countries so there is a need for urgent action by all countries. The LDC Group will continue to push for fair and ambitious action by all."
