Climate Change On Youth?

A panel discussion was held in Colombo to explore youth perspectives on climate change. Climate change has become a major factor in the world and the participation of youth community was discussed at length. The program was initiated by the British Council of Sri Lanka. According to an AC Nielsen survey 45% of youth are aware of climate change while 17% of youths are actively involved in issues related to climate change.

The panel discussion was chaired by Vasantha þhalawattarachchi, Dr Harsha Munasinghe & Jayantha Kulasingham. Meanwhile International Climate Champions project was initiated to promote the participation of youth in Sri Lanka and it introduced by the British council.

Up to now 13 countries are  participating for this event. The climate champions Rochelle Vandort, Tamara De Silva, Ashrifa Ali & Karen  Saddanandan shared their views and their projects with Earthlanka. This survey also revealed that youth community has taken steps to plant trees, use C F L bulbs and organize other such programs.
