Environment Minister Signs A MOU With The Republic Of Korea.

Hon Patali Champika Ranawake, the Minister of Environment signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Hon.Lee Maane, the Minister of Environment of the Republic of Korea on 16th December in Copenhagen on Cooperation for Environmental Protection during the 15th Conference of Parities of the United Nations Framework Convention of Climate Change (UNFCCC) famously known as COP15.

The UNFCCC in Copenhagen, Denmark commenced on 7th December and continues until 18th. The Environment Minister is participating at the high level segment from 16-17 December as the head of the delegation of Sri Lanka.  

The MOU reflected the common commitment to the principles set out in the Rio Declaration on Environment and Development that cooperation between States in the field of environmental protection and sustainable development will further promote friendly relations between the two countries.

The scope of the MOU includes facilitating cooperation on initiatives that prevent and assist adaptation to climate change. It encourages joint activities to fulfill the goals of the UNFCCC and its Kyoto Protocol, and environment protection in several other fields including water, energy and industry sectors.
