All The Canals To Be Reused-Says Sri Lanka Navy
Sri Lanka Navy launched a
canal boat service recently;
Sri Lanka Navy states that they have started a ferry service in the Kirulapone canal Colombo, as a public service for the country. Further the Navy is also working to clean all the canals in the Colombo District with the cooperation of Central Environment Authority, Urban Development Authority, Irrigation Authority, Sri Lanka Ports Authority and several municipal councils.
Done by the Dutch in the 18th century, Colombo canal service has been a major transportation service long time ago. Rich in Bio Diversity these canals are also home for many fauna and flora species. The Navy also states that the canals will be cleaned properly before reuse.
