Sniffer Dogs To Search Endangered Species
Auburn University in Alabama have come up with a novel way of searching for endangered species-highly trained Sniffer dogs. These dogs are not trained to find an animal itself, but the locations they have been by finding their droppings. This is a very useful method to study an animal’s occurrence in an area & its populations. As each animal’s scats contains of the DNA specific to the animal the scientists can get a population count for a certain area.By counting the populations scientists can identify populations large enough to use other sampling techniques & study those animals.
