A seminar on Responsible wildlife tourism in Sri Lanka was held by Dialog Telekom
with Environment Foundation Limited recently.
Speaking at the event Environmentalists Mr.Srilal Mitthapala stated that only 22% of tourist’s arrivals were recorded for wild life parks during the past 2011. Meanwhile he expressed that over visitation of locals was extremely high in the wildlife parks and visitation needs to be regulated. He further stated that development projects in the buffer zones in Yala Wild Life Park, the largest wild life park in Sri Lanka will have a huge impact on the eco systems. Wild life park visitation in Sri Lanka is apparently high than many countries and it is estimated that 250million earned from wild life parks in 2011.
