India Youth Forum 2012
India youth forum which was organized by the Prague based youth time international was held in new Delhi last April with the participation of nearly 80 youth delegates from more than 34 countries. The main theme of the forum being “the country of my dreams” ,the energetic youth participants were divided into five roundtable groups to discuss the issues concerning youth participation in public life, environment ,family values and ethos ,education and social media to see the emergence of a number of new ideas. The round table sessions were held at the Jawaharlal Nehru University and the park hotel-new Delhi. The conference aims to bring up real-time issues that are affecting nations globally, and locally, and to develop a pathway forward on which to work towards development while interacting with various government ministries.
The forum was graced by the guests Sam Pitroda, advisor to the Prime Minister-India, on public information infrastructure and innovations, Vladimir Yakunin, president of Russian Railways and the founding President of the World Public Forum’s ‘Dialogue of Civilizations’ from Russia, S K Sopory, vice-chancellor-JNU, and many other senior educationists social media veterans and environmentalists from Romania, Ukraine, France, Greece and India. They emphasized on the relevance of open dialogues among youth to bring about awareness and change in key social and cultural aspects.
Sam Pitroda, lent his support to the network, stated in his inaugural speech he believes “the present generation is confronted with challenges arising out of climate change, changing job markets, technological advances, increasing influence of popular culture and changing family and social structure” and “It is our responsibility to empower and equip the youth with skills that help build resilience among them,” addressing the youth forum.
scholar of Oriental studies at the Russian Academy of Sciences, World Public Forum advisor, and the editor of the proactive work book of the forum-“working together looking ahead”, Victor Nemchinov mentioned that the question “how do I perceive my country in 10 years’ time and what has to change in my society to make my land and nation the best place to live in”? Is something that every individual should ask themselves and setup as their vision for the society.
