Releasing a report during the summit on  the World Food Day United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) states that  ecological foundations who supports food production, including Bio Diversity needs to be safeguarded immediately by strengthening the Ecological  basis of Food Security  through sustainable food system.

The report says that the population could exceeds nine billion by 2050 and currently one third of  food of the human consumption is lost or wasted amounting to 1.3 billion tonnes per year.
The reports aims to increase the focus on over fishing, unsustainable water use, environmentally degrading agricultural practices. UNEP Executive Director Achim Steiner said that the World needs a green revolution with a better understanding on how  food is actually grown and produced in terms of the nature based inputs provided by forests, freshwater and bio diversity.
