The second Doha Carbon & Energy Forum (DCEF) came to an end today after three days of intensive discussions amongst experts in energy efficiency, solar energy, Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) and climate change. Mr Saif Al Naimi, DCEF Steering Committee Chair and Director of HSE Regulations & Enforcement Directorate at Qatar Petroleum officially closed the Forum and thanked the participants for their insightful contributions and expertise.

DCEF is held under the patronage of H.H. Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, Chairperson of Qatar Foundation, H.E. Dr. Mohammed bin Saleh Al Sada, the Minister of Energy & Industry, Mr. Faisal Al-Suwaidi, President of Research and Development at Qatar Foundation and Mrs. Sara Ortwein, President of ExxonMobil Upstream Research Company. DCEF is organised jointly by Qatar Foundation, Qatar Petroleum and ExxonMobil Qatar, with Qatargas and Shell providing strategic sponsorship and Qatar Airways being the official airline carrier.

The Forum’s four topics were reviewed separately in groups, each from the angles of research and development, policy frameworks, and industrial applications. Today, the four groups reconvened together to present their findings and conclusions.

Each of the energy efficiency, solar energy, CCS and climate change working groups made a number of recommendations with the potential to mitigate and adapt to greenhouse gas challenges in Qatar. The Forum’s Steering Committee will now study all the recommendations and will issue a report regarding their future development.

Mr Saif Al Naimi, DCEF Steering Committee Chair and Director of HSE Regulations & Enforcement Directorate at Qatar Petroleum said:

“DCEF performs two important roles. First, the Forum advances knowledge in the fields of energy efficiency, solar energy, CCS and climate change with a particular focus on Qatar and the region. This is achieved through multi-disciplinary discussions between industry, and academia. Second, by staying connected together, we are creating a local, regional and international network of experts that will build self-sustaining momentum.”
