The Earth Walk 2014

“Heaven is under our feet as well as over our heads.”

― Henry David Thoreau, Walden

The most treasured possession that all beings are gifted with despite their species, creed, caste or race is the Earth they are born on, their home. It is this mother earth who bears us, nurtures us, feeds us and gives us everything with no expectation of anything in return. Sadly today, it is this mother earth that we tend to destroy by means of ignorance and negligence. With the global world running at a hectic speed towards globalism, technological advancement and scientific reawakening most of us tend to forget the basic duty entrusted to every being born on earth. That is our duty towards the Mother Nature who despite our negligence and ignorance tends to give us her best.

We forget that the earth is not inherited from our ancestors; rather we have borrowed it from our children. What have we done in return for the loving mother Earth, who has given us everything she can? What have we done, other than hurt her, rip her up, betray her and eventually try to destroy her, in our greed to gain more? Nothing!! It is high time that we stopped blaming each other for the issues that the Earth is facing today and own up to them. It is high time that we did something rather than just place the blame on somebody else.

It is with this motive that the Green Army and the Rotaract club of Spectrum Institute of Science and Technology together with Earth Lanka is organizing “The Earth Walk”, an awareness campaign to educate the public about the importance of a green lifestyle and to celebrate the International Earth Day (22nd April). The walk would take place on the 27th of April 2014 starting off at Spectrum Institute Premises at 9.00 a.m. With “Marching towards a green earth” as its theme the Green Army of Spectrum is highly into motivating the general public about global climate change, its causes and means of combating climate change. The walk would be an initial step towards the Green Army’s march towards a green earth.

The fight against climate change is an impasse and life on earth hangs in the balance. We need an active informed public to stand tall, stop and reverse climate change and protect our children’s future. So come join with the Green army and the Rotaract Club of Spectrum Institute of Science and Technology to walk towards a greener earth and save the only planet that can sustain life, our home, our loving mother who our future generations would need much more than us.

“We are the children of the earth and removed from her our spirit withers.”

― George Macaulay Trevelyan
