Young Inventors Of SriLanka To Represent Stockholm Junior Water Prize International Contests

Young Inventors Tharindu Madhawa Premathilake, Kavya Rasanjalee Liyanage and Thisarau Aparna from Thakshila College, Horana have won 1st place for their project, “Developing a new technique to minimize the impact on stream fish in streams with modified high velocities”. This Project, Investigates the Effect of stream flow velocity variations on stream fish. Over the last decade the development of mini hydropower projects has been one of the most active areas of the energy sector. One of the main environmental challenges faced by such projects is related to fish.

This is a National competition is organized annually by the Community Led Environmental Awareness Network (CLEAN) managed by Industrial Solutions Lanka (ISL) and held under the guidance of the Ministry of Education every year May/June. Young Inventors will represent Sri Lanka in the 2014 Stockholm Junior water Prize International Final organized by the Stockholm International Water Institute in August 31st to September 05th 2014.
