“Wasa Wisa Nethi Jathika Pola” A Toxin-Free Nation, a National Exhibition to promote organic foods and organic farming was ended recently in Sri Lanka. This was the firsts ever National Exhibition which was held to promote safe agricultural practices and organic farming in Sri Lanka.

This exhibition was organized to showcase the government’s vision for ‘Food Security and Sustainable Agriculture. President Maithripala Sirisena opened the 3day national exhibition and the President cast doubts on whether the agricultural policy adopted by the governments since independence had brought desired results.
If we had an environment friendly agricultural policy, our farmers would not have used harmful chemical fertilizer, pesticides and weedicides that have poisoned Sri Lanka’s soil, the water sources, our health and the flora and fauna. What the government is trying to do is to save our farmers, our environment, our soil and water from further poisoning by chemical fertilizer and pesticides to save our future generations.
