Buried, Dead And Many Displaced In Meethotamulla
Rescue operations are underway as emergency workers looking for survivors after a massive rubbish dump collapsed in Sri Lanka on Friday. According to reports 27 bodies been discovered from rescue missions carried out so far.
The 90-metre-high dump in the capital Colombo collapsed during country New Year’s Day damaging more than 100 houses. 625 people whose homes were either destroyed or under threat from the collapse were being housed in nearby schools. Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said on Saturday that the government would soon remove the garbage dump from the area. Meanwhile the Japanese government informed that a team of experts will be send for future relief operations to the dump site.
