Anindo Majumdar Dedicates The First Ever ‘Nicobari Hodi’ To Andaman Tourism

The Chief Secretary, A&N Administration, Shri Anindo Majumdar IAS, today dedicated the first ever Nicobari Hodi (Traditional Nicobari Canoe) for Andaman Tourism today. At a simple
function organized today morning at the Rajiv Gandhi Water Sports Complex at 9.30 am, the Chief Secretary inaugurated the first of its kind venture in Port Blair.


The launch of Nicobari Hodi for Isles’ tourism industry is the first of its kind and has been possible with the active support of the Director of Tourism, Shri Amit Anand, IFS. The launch is also a part of ‘The Nicobars’, a project being promoted by Feel Good Venture Private Ltd.
and aims at promoting and preserving the rich cultural heritage of the Nicobari Tribal community while generating livelihood opportunities, especially for the tribal members. Apart from Hodi, ‘The Nicobars’ has introduced souvenirs, virgin coconut oil, lemongrass tea among others, the debut of which can be seen at the Island Tourism Festival 2018.

Speaking on the occasion, Anindo Majumdar appreciated the efforts of the tribal community to come forward with this novel project, which is self supporting and self sustaining. Majumdar assured all possible help through the Administration to the tribal members involved in the project.

Soon after the inauguration, the Chief Secretary took the first ride on the Hodi, which was lauded by the gathering. The Hodi will now be available at the Rajiv Gandhi Water Sports Complex for the tourists to experience. The Hodi experience is seen as a rare experience since the
Nicobar group of islands is not open for tourism.
