World Environment Day 2019

World Environment Day was initiated by UNEP during 1974. The event has grown to become a global event widely celebrated around 196 countries. This year the key theme was  Air Pollution. Government of China will be the host country as the nation is battling to prevent air pollution. China is also listed at the biggest emitter in UNFCCC.  

Sri Lanka will also celebrate the inauguration event under President Maithripala Sirisena on 6th of June.  Meanwhile WHO states that 4300 Sri Lankans die every year due to air pollution. According to research 3 million deaths reported annually worldwide. The CEA states that 60% of air pollution is caused by automobile fumes. CEA hopes to introduce new regulations to minimize air pollution in the country.
