Standing Committee Of CITES COP 18 Decides Not To Hold The Summit In Colombo

The Standing Committee of COP 18 summit today announced that venue for the conference was changed from Sri Lanka to Switzerland due to security and other concerns. CITES COP 18 summit was postponed earlier due to Easter Sunday attacks occurred in Colombo during last April.

 

The decision was made by the committee after the final discussions held with Sri Lankan government followed by the latest report from UN mission in Sri Lanka on safety and security measures in the country. Therefore the 71st meeting of the CITES standing committee will take place on 16 Augusts and the opening ceremony of CITES COP 18 will be held on 17 Augusts in Geneva, Switzerland.
