A New Endemic Snake Species Found In Balangoda
A new species of snake Rhinophis mendisi was found from Balangoda. Senior reptile and amphibian scientists Dr.Mendis Wickremasinghe discovered the species,According to Dr.Wickremasinghe Genus Rhinophis is one of the most numerous genus ever recorded in Sri Lanka. commonly known as shield tails, there are 17 snakes found in Sri Lanka and all of them are endemic to Sri Lanka. The new species was named in honor of Dr.Mendis Wickremasinghe.
