63 Million People Affected By Floods In China

According to reports 219 people have died in China due to floods.  Flooding on the Yangtze River peaked again this week in Sichuan province and the sprawling metropolis of Chongqing. All reservoirs in Yangtze River peaked to highest level after 17 years while the floods affected 63 million causing damages to 54,000 houses.   

Massive floods also have threatened some of the country’s most famous landmarks. In Sichuan province floodwaters rose up to the base of Leshan Giant Buddha statue, a 1200 year old sculpture carved out of the mountainside which is a UNESCO world heritage site.
