Defence Secretary Informs Not To Auction Sniffer Dongs

Defence Secretary Major General Kamal Gunaratne informed not to auction police sniffer dogs which had served the department of police.


Defence Secretary instructed the acting IGP to keep the dogs under the care of police department until death. The decision was made after a series of protest carried out by animal rights activist against the auction of 25 police sniffer dogs who are 10 years old. It was reported that police department auctioned the dogs for Rs.310, 000. According to animal rights activist auctioning the sniffer dogs will endanger their lives and they praised for the move taken by defence secretary to stop the auction
