New Species Of Shield Tail Discovered In Sri Lanka.

According to Natural History Museum another shield tail snake was discovered from Sri Lanka. The newly found species was discovered by senior scientists Dr.David Gower. Dr.David named this species Scientifically Rhinophis mendisi in honor of famous Herpetologists Dr. Mendis Wickremasighe.

This is the fourth species shield tail snake discovered from Sri Lanka. All the species are endemic and the newly discovered snake can be located in the areas of Balangoda. According to Dr.David Gower there are more unidentified shield tail snakes in Sri Lanka and the number could increase more than 10 species in future.
