New Bird Discovered In Palk Strait
A group of researchers from the University of Colombo recorded a new bird species endemic to Sri Lanka. The discovery was made in the islands of Palk Strait.The bird has been named in Sinhala as Hanuman Oleviya and Hanuman Plover in English. Research team was led by Jude Janith Niroshan under the supervision of Dr.Sampath Senevirathne of University of Colombo. Dr. Seneviratne further stated that the research paper of the findings will be released in near future. According to researchers the bird is very identical to Kentish plover but however the bird is a not a migratory species and endemic to Sri Lanka.
