Canada And Sri Lanka To Expand Cooperation In Education, Skills Development And Agriculture

Canadian High Commissioner Eric Walsh called on Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena on May 17 at the Temple Trees in Colombo.
They held discussions on the bilateral relations between the two countries and the ways and means of expanding development cooperation between the two countries.
The Prime Minister said that he is thankful for Canada’s support to Sri Lanka since the past for the development of railways and establishing Hardy Advanced technological Institute in Ampara to produce skilled technicians for Sri Lanka. He urged the Canadian government to consider the proposal to upgrade the Hardy Institute to a degree-awarding technological university.
He briefed the High Commissioner about the steps taken to overcome the current economic challenges and the progress in solving the issues pertaining to minorities in the north and east. He said the government encourage businessman among Sri Lankans living in Canada to invest in this country.
Mr. Walsh expressed his happiness over the progress towards reviving the economy after overcoming the unprecedented economic challenges faced by Sri Lanka. He assured fullest support to development activities in Sri Lanka.
Secretary to the Prime Minister, Anura Dissanayake, Secreatry to Ministry of Home Affairs and Public Administration, K D N Ranjith Ashoka and Political Officer of the Canadian High Commission, Indirani Jayawardena also participated in this event
