The Delegation Of UNFAO Headquarters Visits To Observe The Organization Of The 37th Asia Pacific Regional Conference Of The UNFAO To Be Held On February 19-22nd.

Arrangements have been made to hold the 37th Asia Pacific Conference of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization in Colombo from February 19 to 22.

The entire organizational activities are managed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Plantation Industries and the Sri Lanka Office of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations.

Some  200 representatives of 42 countries in the Asia and Pacific region are going to participate in this conference and 40 ministers of agriculture are going to participate. 

It has now been confirmed that 20 of them are going to come to Sri Lanka. Apart from this, a group of high officials including Mr. Qu Dongyu, Director General of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization is also going to participate.

A group of officials from the Asia Pacific Regional Head Office visited here to investigate the organization of the 37th Asia Pacific Regional Conference and they met with the Minister of Agriculture and Plantation Industries, Mr. Mahinda Amaraweera.

Mr. Jong Jin Kim, Deputy Director General of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization’s Asia Pacific Regional Office, Mr. Simpson Robert and Media Advisor Mr. Allen, as well as Mr. Vimlendra Sharan, the organization’s representative in Sri Lanka, joined the discussion.

Minister Mahinda Amaraweera, who expressed his opinion, said that all arrangements have been made for holding the 37th Asia Pacific Conference of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization.

He also said that this is the international conference in which the largest group of government representatives will participate at one time, especially after the Covid-19 epidemic situation that Sri Lanka faced and the subsequent economic crisis.

The Minister also stated that President  Ranil Wickremesinghe, will be the chief guest for this event.

Mr. Jong Jin Kim, the Deputy Director General who expressed his opinion, said that this conference will become an international conference which is extremely important for Sri Lanka. 

He added that this conference will have a great impact on the introduction of new technology to agriculture, the development of the tourism industry in the country and the economic development of the country.

He also stated that it is expected that the Government of Sri Lanka will work to create all the favorable conditions that can be obtained through this conference.
