Qatar Museums Debuts Vibrant Spring Programme Following Spectacular Week Of Special Events, Exhibition Premieres, And Panel Discussions

Qatar Creates, the year-round national cultural movement that curates, promotes, and celebrates the diversity of cultural activities in Qatar, recently launched its programme for showcasing art, culture, and creativity. Working with partners in museums, film, fashion, hospitality, cultural heritage, performing arts, and the private sector in Qatar, the Qatar Creates platform amplifies the voice of Qatar’s creative industries, directly connecting audiences to events.

Electric Idyll by Pipilotti Rist
23 February – 1 June 2024
Qatar Museums opened Electric Idyll – the first survey exhibition dedicated to renowned contemporary Swiss artist Pipilotti Rist (b. 1962) in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region — at the Fire Station: Artist in Residence in Doha on 23 February 2024. Designed as a single, comprehensive installation spanning the more than 650-square-metre exhibition space of the Fire Station’s Garage Gallery, Electric Idyll presents a diverse collection of some of the artist’s most celebrated works combined with new participatory pieces created specifically for this exhibition. The exhibition will remain on view through 1 June 2024.
Qatar Creates – Public Panel Talks
Qatar held a series of public panel talks under its Qatar Creates Week activities at The National Museum of Qatar (NMoQ). In addition to Qatar Creates public panel discussion, the programme will feature Art for Tomorrow talks, organised by the Democracy and Culture Foundation. Featuring renowned figures from the local and international arts scene, along with acclaimed art practitioners, industry experts and patrons, the conversations will highlight a variety of perspectives exploring the impact of art on culture. Speakers included Michael Govan, Director of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, architect and urban planner, Stefano Boeri and author Kara Vander Weg.
Al Journal by Liwan Studio and Labs
Liwan Design Studios and Labs launched the first printed edition of Al Journal – a captivating compilation of essays, articles, and visuals that delve into contemporary design themes across the Southwest Asian and North African region and beyond. The launch event took place in Liwan Design Studios and Labs on 27 February.
Open Day at Fire Station: Artist In Residence
Qatar Creates opened the exhibition The Voyager is the Narrator: New York & Paris Residency Exhibition, housed in galleries 3 and 4 at Fire Station. On view to the public until 20 April 2024, the exhibition offers a captivating journey through the distinctive perspectives and creative expressions that have emerged from New York and Paris. The participating artists from Paris are Ibrahim Albaker, Voyyyd, Fatima Ahmed, Lolwa Almeghaiseb and Maryam AlTajer, and the participating artists from New York are Almaha Nasser, Saida Alkhulaifi, Zainab Alshibani, and Wadha Almesallam.
Good Finds Market by Torba Market x Fire Station: Artist in Residence
Fire Station: Artist in Residence partnered with Torba Market on the Good Finds Market, presenting a fresh lineup of vintage and second-hand stallholders, handmade ceramics, limited-edition art pieces, unique jewellery, craft and stationery, and food and drink.
