
We Could Generate Fuel From 300,000 Hectares Of Sugar Cane. - Says Minister
Let’s reduce the effects of climate change by protecting wet lands, was the theme of this years commemoration of “World Wetlands Day”.
The World Wet Lands day was commemorated on 2nd of February 2010 at the “John De Silva Hall”
Colombo. An art competition was also held on the same venue, while certificates were awarded for the winners at the same time. Speaking on that event the Minister for Environment and Natural Resources Hon. Patali Champika Ranawaka stated that the Climate change has affected the wet lands in Sri Lanka. He further explained that Colombo Wet lands was affected by the floods of last year and the cultivations around Muthurajawela was devastated by the sea level rising.. Speaking at the event he further said that Sri Lanka is capable of generating fuel from 300,000 hectares of Sugar Cane.
