Fire Station: Artist In Residence Announces The 8th Edition Of The Artist In Residence Programme

Today, Fire Station: Artist in Residence announced the launch of its 8th edition of the Artist in Residence (AIR) programme, accompanied by the unveiling of the selected artists for this edition. This year’s programme will run from 18 September 2023 to 18 June 2024.
The Artist in Residence programme at Fire Station stands as a world-class artist residency programme designed to foster and promote Qatar’s artistic talents. Aspiring young artists are offered a transformative platform to sharpen their creative skills through expert mentorship, production support, and curatorial guidance. It also includes access to studio space, production support, and expert mentorship to foster talent development. At the end of their residency, artists will have the opportunity to showcase their artworks in an exhibition held in the Garage Gallery of Fire Station that covers approximately 700 sq. ft.

This initiative has consistently demonstrated our dedication to nurturing and empowering Qatar’s emerging artistic talents. As these artists embark on a journey of creative exploration, we look forward to witnessing the evolution of their work and the impact they make within our artistic community and beyond.”
With more than 120 applications during the Open Call that took place between 15 February 2023 and 15 April 2023, 17 artists have been selected. Participating artists for the eighth edition include Somaia Dorzadeh (Iran), Hannah Fakhri (Qatar), Abdulla AlSallat (Qatar), Oleksandra Umanska (Ukraine), Charlotte Rodenberg (United States), Shuaa Al Kuwari (Qatar), Noora Al-Hardan (Qatar), Marco Bruno (Italy), Simone Carena (Italy), Aljaze AlNaimi (Qatar), Zainab AlShibani (Qatar), Aisha Al-Abdulla (Qatar), Mohammed AlEmadi (Qatar), Alkhuzama Alharami (Qatar), Ann Mc Nally (Ireland), Alanoud Alghamdi (Saudi Arabia), and Maryam AlTajer (Bahrain).
The Artist in Residence programme has achieved remarkable success, extending its influence to include a three-month residency at the esteemed Cite Internationale des Art in Paris and Studio 209 NY, a part of the renowned International Studio & Curatorial Program (ISCP) in New York City. Collaborating with local entities and organisations, Fire Station further enriches the programme’s offerings through workshops and collaborative projects, fostering engagement within the artistic community and beyond.
Saida Al Khulaifi, Head of Programs and Exhibitions of Fire Station, added, “Guided by our commitment to fostering creative talent in Qatar, our annual Artist in Residence programme provides a dedicated nine-month period for participating artists to refine their artistic practices across disciplines such as visual arts, photography, film, sound art and design. Beyond individual growth, the programme offers a unique platform for artists to forge connections, drawing mutual inspiration from one another.”
