Qatar Museums’ participation highlights Global Commitment to Sustainability

From 30 November to 12 December 2023, Qatar Museums (QM) participated in the 28th Conference of the Parties (COP28), a monumental international gathering focused on combatting climate change and advocating for sustainable practices.

The event, which was held at Dubai Expo City, United Arab Emirates, marked a fundamental moment for QM to showcase its unwavering dedication to environmental stewardship, innovation, and sustainability on a global platform. QM stands as a beacon of progress, recognised for its continuous efforts in environmental conservation. The Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) achieved a groundbreaking milestone by becoming the first museum in the Middle East & Asia to attain carbon neutrality certification for the reporting period of January to December 2021.

This accomplishment highlights QM’s dedication to sustainability within the cultural sector. As part of its engagement at COP28, QM was invited to deliver a presentation on 9 December 2023, shedding light on its influential role in the international dialogue on climate action. The presentation provided insights into QM’s journey towards carbon neutrality and its pivotal contributions to global sustainability.

From earning prestigious awards like the Gulf Sustainability Award 2023 to being honoured by the Green Organisation the United Kingdom, QM continues to pave the way for responsible environmental practices.
