Mineral excavations will be start off in Sri Lanka in June 2010, this was revealed at a press conference held at Ministry of Environment and Natural resources.

The session was inaugurated by the Minister for Environment and Natural resources Hon. Patali Champika Ranawaka. According to the minister these excavations will be carried out from the sky using a magnetic field to a minimum depth of 400m. The minister stated that he hopes to establish a database library on Sri Lankan minerals in future.  These explorations will be carried out from a height of approximately 80m from land. Minister revealed that searching for Geo Thermal energy sources are also another initiative that the ministry has been taken up. According to the minister earthquake warning centers will also be set up in 3 locations around the country.
