Share

Sri Lanka’s first ever underwater museum was declared opened by Navy commander vice admiral Piyal De Silva recently.  The first ever underwater museum was built under the request of Prime minister Mahinda Rajapaksa.

The museum was designed by utilizing sculptures and other artifacts. This initiative was done by Sri Lanka Navy as an effort to protect the marine life in the area. The museum was built in Galle an area known for rich marine life in the country.  Sri Lanka have been working during past 10 years in creating artificial coral reefs surrounding the coastal belt.
