Mass Beaching Of Pilot Whales In Panadura
Around 100 pilot whales stranded in the western coasts of Panadura today. This was the first ever record of such mass beaching in Sri Lanka.
The short-finned pilot whales began beaching at Panadura, 25 kilometres (15 miles) south of Colombo, during evening hours Monday. Rescue operations underway with Volunteers, MEPA, Sri Lanka Navy, AISEC international, D Bug, Sri Lanka life saving association and wild life department of Sri Lanka. Pilot whales, which can grow up to six metres (20 feet) long and weigh a tonne, are highly social.
