The National event of the World Ozone Day was celebrated on 21st September 2012 at the Art Folk Theater in Battaramulla. This event was held with the patronage of Hon. Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa, Hon.Minister of Environment Hon. Anura Priyadarshana Yapa, Mr. Maco Gonzalez Executive Director – Ozone Secretariat, Mr.Atul Bagai – Regional Coordinator UNEP Asia Pacific Region, and with the participation of Mrs. Rizana Bilgrami – Country Director of UNDP Colombo.

Hon. Minister of Environment Anura Priyadarshana Yapa stated that our nation is an island country and we have shown tremendous achievements in protecting the ozone layer.
Mrs.Rizana Bilgrami, Country Director of UNDP Colombo stated that after 23 years Sri Lanka managed to achieve Montreal Protocol appliances as lots of green house gases and cfc levels has gone down.
