National Policy for the conservation and sustainable use of Mangrove Ecosystems Launched in Sri Lanka.
The national policy was launched by Ministry of Wild life and Ministry of Environment recently. Sri Lanka is a hotspot for Mangroves in the world and 22 species of mangroves recorded island wide. Mangroves Ecosystems play a crucial role in the protection of the coastal zone by maintaining its ecological equilibrium. Presently these eco systems are under threat due to various human activities.
