Felicitation ceremony for environmental journalists
was held recently in Sri Lanka,
this event was organized by Sri Lanka Press Institute and Practical Action.
Speaking at the event environment lawyer Mr. Jagath Gunawardena stated ongoing development and environment issues should be discussed and media is needed to report on these issues.
Speaking about this initiative Ms.Vishaka Hindellage stated that for the past 40 years, Practical Action have been engaged on awareness with communities about sustainable development and from 1995 the institution is more engage with media to report such issues.
Speaking at the event Professor Tissa Kariyawasam stated that media could function as a factor for development in a country. Workshops were also carried out for journalists who are working for the print, electronic and web media prior to the felicitation ceremony
