Second Generator Connected To National Grid

Engineers at the first coal fired power plant in Norochcholai yesterday connected the second generator to the national grid, in other words, additional 300 MW to the system after completion of overhaul work.
The Earthlanka learns unlike in previous occasions, local engineers were responsible in repairing work.
Norochcholai Power Plant Complex Manager Nalaka Wijekoon said that the boiler had been stalled since June 18 to effect repairs.
He said the repairs were completed in 75 days well in advanced of the estimated time frame of 100 days.
The Plant provides between 10 and 15 percent of the country’s requirement of power had been met by stage II of the power complex since 2014.
Engineers said that the boiler had been stalled since June 18 and had been undergoing repairs.
The CEB said the second unit of the plant started yesterday after completion of overhaul work. “Boilers fired at 6.30am –Sunday- and the startup sequence in progress,” the CEB said.
