Two Special Fertilizer's Ordered For Potato And Tea Cultivations

Agriculture Minister Mahinda Amaraweera yesterday (27) instructed the Lanka Fertiliser Company and the Commercial Fertiliser Company to produce two types of special fertilizers for potato and tea cultivations within a week. 

Accordingly, production of special fertilizers for potato and vegetable cultivation was assigned to the Ceylon Fertilizer Company, and production of special fertilizers for tea cultivation was assigned to the Commercial Fertilizer Company.

The Minister instructed the Ministry Secretary Gunadasa Samarasinghe to give necessary approval for the production of these two types of fertilizers. 

The two chairmen stated that the companies already have the urea, MOP and other ingredients required for the production of the required fertilizers.

The distribution of urea is ongoing and 80 per cent of the fertilizer required for agriculture have already been distributed. Also MOP fertilizers are being distributed as per the request of farmer organizations.

Agriculture, Wildlife and Forest Resources Conservation Minister Mahinda Amaraweera said that complaints have been received that some government officials are acting in a way that harms the farmers during the chemical fertilizer distribution programme and it has been decided to take strict disciplinary action against such officials.

The minister also said that no matter how well the government works, due to the activities of some government officials, the people are not receiving the reliefs given by the government properly, and finally, because of such officials, the government as well as the ministers have to bear the people’s blame, he said. Therefore, the minister mentioned that action will be taken against such officers by paying attention to the complaints received from the public.

Minister Amaraweera, Ministry Secretary Samarasinghe also participated in the fertilizer storage inspection in Hunupitiya, Wattala yesterday.
