Death Toll Rises In Sri Lanka Due To Floods

More than 100 people fears dead due to the heavy rain and floods in the  Southern part of Sri Lanka. Meanwhile 99 people went missing and relief operations underway by the Military forces in Sri Lanka.South-West monsoon unleashing torrential rains, which ravaged fourteen districts in the western and southern parts of the country during last two days in what was described as the worst-ever calamity since the 2003 floods.

According to Met Department 500mm of rainfall was recorded in several parts of the country. The highest rainfall of 553mm was recorded from Kukuleganga in the Kalutara District while nearly 500mm of rain had fallen in Weeraketiya. The other rainfall figures included 395mm in Batuwagala, 387.2mm in Padukka and 348.5mm in Ratnapura. All in all the rainfalls exceeded 100mm in both the Western and Sabaragamuwa Provinces. Meanwhile an Indian ship filled with relief supplies for those affected by the devastating floods and landslides arrived at the Colombo Port on today.
